It's an overcast weekend on Galveston Island. I sip my morning coffee, still in my night clothes, sleep in my eyes. Dearest BF is out walking the dog on the deserted historic downtown streets where our hotel is located. I am at the beach, but not on the sand. The street is usually bustling with urban energy. It is early. It is quiet. It is peaceful. So peaceful. I look up from browsing the news on my phone, and my eyes wander to the view out the window.

My hotel suite is on the corner and a few floors up. I see the roof-line and chimney of the building across the street. It has a brick architectural detail that I know is called a Dental Molding. Then a bird lands on the chimney and settles in. It's a sea bird. It's a seagull. And somehow everything in the world feels in balance. I pick up my phone, close my news app, and open the camera to catch this moment.

The seagull waited patiently for me. The clouds drifted lazily across the gray sky. Such a perfect island morning.
