A spring road trip through the beautiful Central Texas Hill Country is quite a sight to see.  Over a half a century ago First Lady, Lady Bird Johnson, saw the opportunity to marry beauty and conservation. She began by restoring degraded public highway lands with native wildflowers. And it caught on in a big way. Today, Texas Bluebonnets (and other wildflowers) race riotously along the roadsides from El Paso to Beaumont, Amarillo to Brownsville, and everywhere in between. In a really good year, families pick the best spots and pull over on the shoulder. They hike up into the meadow and create snapshot memories. And planting wildflowers has caught on with Texas residents too. It is as common to see an urban patch of yard as a rancher’s hillside covered in bluebonnets.

I created Marble Falls Meadow by collaging more than a half-dozen different photos together. This allowed me to create an idealized springtime landscape. It imagines the most perfect road-trip through the Texas Hill country with a winding drive over the gently rolling hills. It feels like what you see out a car window with the breezes flowing in and the bluebonnets drifting by in acre after acre of endless meadow. From afar, this art looks like a cohesive snapshot to remember the day by. But on closer inspection the digital cutting and swirling manipulation reveals itself and invites in those other sensory experiences of movement.
